Fall has finally arrived, with it’s rich earth tones of burnt sienna, golden yellow, muted orange, and ruby red. If you live up north that it. Here in South Florida, it’s still a toasty 82 degrees, but I don’t think that should deter anyone from decorating this fall and hosting get-togethers, like movie nights.
I’m a 90s baby, so going to the movies wasn’t much my style. I loved renting them and being in the comfort of my home, the hallmark of an introvert. Thus, this list of suggestions will come from the perspective of a homebody who (in a moment of extraversion) decided to invite about three friends over to her home.
Décor and Setting
Since the movie night I’m hosting will be for the Hocus Pocus 2 movie, I want to decorate with just a few pieces of “spooky” decor. I got the cookie jars from T.J. Maxx and you can find similar ones online as well.
First for the setting, have cozy throws out for your guests to cover up in. Throws that we have are from a really long time ago, but I recommend something cozy, breathable, and easily washable. One thing I need to have with a throw is that I need to be able to wrap around myself, like a cocoon. Oh, and rule of thumb, unless you have 4-ft tall humans as your guests, each person gets their own throw.
I also had a candle going (shameless plug) that I think is a really great, unique scent perfect for fall. It has that quintessential sweet/spiced scent that has become the hallmark of autumn scent, but it isn’t your typical “pumpkin spice”.
Food
You’ve heard of the trending butter boards right? Well, I’m doing a little twist with a Boursin board. To those of who are dairy-free Boursin has dairy-free cheese! (So truth be told, I originally started this blog post week before the actual movie night and it’s now a week later) I say that to say, Boursin does not spread well. Even at room temperature, it just sort of spreads like a dry baked potato.
So even though the typical movies victuals are popcorn, nachos, hot dogs and candy, I decided to my take on a movie treats.
I had: popcorn, nuts, a marble lazy susan covered in Boursin, salami, and water crackers; garlic confit, toasted ciabatta slices, and honey; overly-doughy mini pizza bites that exploded in the oven.

Drink
I had one drink. I was trying to be ambitious and have a slew of drinks but I did one drink and I did it well and I came up with the recipe on the spot. I made a spiced cider mule mocktail that anyone could choose to add vodka (or not). And guess what? It was a hit, my friends really liked it!
I also made a batch of pizza pockets that were too doughy where all the cheese oozed out of the pockets. Needless to say, I don’t have the recipe for them, haha.
Since my first hosting event last year, I think I’m becoming better and better at hosting. And I actually quite like it. I most likely will do another movie night as it was easier than an actual dinner and was more fun. Maybe next time I’ll film a video and post it to YouTube.
