What in the world is this girl talking about?
I’m so glad you asked, thanks for dropping by.
I’m talking about wearing white. Which technically you can wear any time of the year. You might get caught by the fashion police, but the citation of a fashion faux pas might be worth it for these dresses.
So, what is the the reason behind now white after Labor Day?
It started in the 1800s, when wearing white was a way to stay cooler during the hoy, summer months. All the while, the industrial boom in city centers made it more challenging to wear white without it getting filthy. Thus, well to do Americans would retreat to their countryside home, where it was cleaner, to avoid the dirt and grime of populated urban areas that would inevitably soil their crisp white, Edwardian skirts. Wearing darker colors became associated with the working class, in which those colors would more easily hide the grime of their daily labor.
Fast forward to today, and wouldn’t you just love to go out on the town in the fabulous fits? (Even if it were past Labor Day?)
